The Matrix is designed to resist turnover for all power levels and situations, and its stability is best described as a longer Axiom Envy. Matrix should have a long straight travel for most throwers, followed by a dependable fade. While this is not a “meathook” style overstable midrange, its utility is not to be underestimated. Release angles make all the difference with this type of midrange, yielding useful flights on releases from anhyzer to flat and hyzer.

    Matrix is amazing

When i first bought a matrix it was in proton plastic, in this plastic the disc flies more like a 0 2 as the turn and fade. Then i found the neutron plastic and wow it flies amazing. More like a 0 1 so a lot more controllable on angles. I can hyzer it, throw it flat or put it on anyhzer and let it flatten out softly. I now bag 3 matrix permanently. A proton, neutron and beaten in electron.
The neutron matrix is just an amazing all round midrange you can use to fulfill so many shot shapes.
At full power it flies straight with a suptle fade up to 100m.
    Amazing disc!

The balanced "Goldilocks" option for Gyro midranges?

The debate raging over crowning the "best midrange" disc is pretty hectic, with the OG crew of the Buzzz / Roc / Emac Truth battling it out against the NKOTBs like the Trust / Hex / MD3, and everyone taking religious positions on their preferred choice. Well, the Matrix is not in that fight. TBH I only bought it because I liked the Keanu movies and was curious to try the disc bold enough to echo the name of the film franchise! By no means is it a bad disc, but it modestly parks itself in a kind of second-ranking on a range of elements that other discs do better. (You might even say it balances a matrix of factors!)

The Buzzz feels better in the hand, the Roc is glidier, the EM-Truth is longer, the Mako3 shapes easier and the Pyro is trustier in the wind. But imagine a disc that isn't the best in any class, but makes a fair bid for runner-up in all categories ... what could you do with that? I would argue that the Matrix is that kind of disc: it feels good in the hand, slim and controllable, it glides pretty confidently and holds its line nearly as well as a Mako3. Of course, it doesn't fly as far as the best of them, but it's not going to shortchange you on distance, either.

It has been on the cusp of making my bag for a while now, and I still take it out regularly on fieldwork, mainly because of its gorgeous flight line on a forehand approach, being very torque friendly with a sweet spot from 40m up to about 70m, landing with fade but softly, without the sharp OS hook up of - say - a Pyro or a Verdict. It goes without saying that discs in Neutron are more stable than in Electron, and the Proton will be glidier than either, but I went ahead and said it, anyway!
