The Photon is a stable-overstable high speed distance driver. The Photon is best described as a longer Tesla, with power throwers able to achieve some flight extending turn, and all throwers getting a reliable fade. The Photon is naturally headwind resistant but average power throwers can use a headwind to emulate those extended flights of high power throwers.

Fission Plastic: Ultra-Lightweight Neutron Core

Fission™ Microbubble Technology produces an ultralight core with evenly distributed and imperceptible weight reduction microbubbles. The ultralight core allows an even higher GYRO® overmold density relative to the core, yet still remaining in the lighter weight classes — 135g to 165g in the Photon.

This produces an entirely new type of lightweight disc never before seen in the sport, and beyond the capability of any other manufacturer. Weight distribution, stability, and durability of prior “bubble” discs are all improved upon by Fission. Skeptics of prior light or bubble plastics are in for a surprise, as Fission brings advanced disc physics and true high-tech molding into the lightweight plastics arena.

  • Ultra-lightweight core for added GYRO®
  • Imperceptible micro-bubbles
  • Improved durability over competition
  • Light throwing weight with substantial feel

        A great DD from MVP

It's a nice contender to the Grand Grace (especially if you want something sub-170g), it feels great and is true to its flight ratings.
It ended up being too light and not as skippy and as stable as my Grace and Musket but if you're looking for a stable (or overstable if you have a slow arm speed) distance driver in the MVP lineup then get this.

A high-speed control driver with impeccable family traits (Matrix / Volt / Tesla / Photon)

Imagine bagging a family of discs with stable-to-overstable flights which are reliable in moderate headwinds but can still serve as shapeable throwers, covering 5-speed midrange, 8-speed fairway, 9-speed hybrid to 11-speed distance driver. This is my thesis for a Matrix / Volt / Tesla / Photon collecton, as their flight characteristics clearly demonstrate a lineage engineered from a common mold. I was already bagging the Matrix, Volt and Tesla before I decided to take a punt on the Photon. I imagined what an extra 30m on my Tesla would look like, and it was suddenly essential to find out.

I was a little wary getting the Fission plastic version, but once I made sure that it came in max weight (thanks for the emails, Olli) and felt how comfortable and chalky it was, my doubts were put to rest. Thankfully, having thrown its siblings, I was aware that it takes a substantial investment of time and hard-throwing to get this mold to fly properly. Up until at least 50 ground hits, it is basically a pretty little meathook you wouldn't take out for a 250 foot drive. But after that point, it really begins to show its glide.

The Fission plastic probably helps with breaking in because - PSEUDO SCIENCE WARNING - it is pretty much full of air bubbles, right? Now that mine is seasoned (say about 300 throws) it jets like a rocket for a straight 115m before the hook-up starts to kick it. Like the Volt and Tesla, the fade is a proper no-nonsense "sit-the-hell-down" action which is very reassuring. As with its siblings, it is a shapers disc. Hyzers draw perfect rainbows. Flat throws are arrow straight with no turn (unless it is into a 40kph headwind) and skip neatly on landfall. And I can comfortably stretch it out to on big anhyzer S-lines to 130m, but you need to commit to the angle or else see it stall out with its strong gyro fade. Bliss ...
